A flood has hit Louisville, Kentucky and the entire Kentuckianaclosing streets, the University of Louisville campus, and causing emergency car rescues this morning. University of Louisville officials say that it is not even safe to leave campus (see video below). Police are urging people to stay indoors and off the streets until the threat passes.
It began earlier this morning when over three inches of rain fell in approximately two hours during rush hour. The Rubbertown area in western Louisville was hit with more than 6 inches of rain in three hours. The National Weather Service reports that some parts of the city were also pelted by marble-sized hail for as long as 20 minutes. Many roads are being reported as impassable in cities and towns across Clark County.

While the rain has stopped during this hour, the threat continues. A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 4 PM today for south central Indiana north central Kentucky.
